Senior Tax Manager

Role and Responsibilities 

The Senior Tax Manager position will have the primary responsibility to review different aspects of the hedge fund, BSL CLO and private equity partnership tax compliance work. The candidate will report directly to the Director of Hedge Fund Tax Compliance and should have a good background in understanding various types of alternative investment fund structures and profound tax knowledge including but not limit to loan origination, distressed debt, 704 (c) allocations, stuffing, PTP determination, mark-to-market election, OID, bond netting, wash sales, constructive sales, qualified dividend analysis, 1233 adjustment, straddles, 1256 contracts, swaps, flow through K-1s, UBTI, FIRPTA and FDAP withholdings, and side pockets. Experience in SPV partnerships and corporations would be a plus. Responsibilities will include: 

  • Review complex partnership book-to-tax securities adjustments, tax allocations, state apportionment and withholding tax computation for hedge funds, BSL CLOs and private equity funds 
  • Review federal/state partnership K-1s, PFIC statements, income tax returns, foreign reporting forms, and quarterly income tax projections 
  • Review SPV partnership and corporations’ federal/state tax returns and quarterly estimates 
  • Compile and review SPV corporation’s quarterly tax accruals 
  • Monitor internal and external tax deliverable deadlines and set up priorities on various assignments 
  • Establish contacts and work as a point person with outside tax administrators and accounting firms for timely releasing of the K1s and filing of all tax returns 
  • Be able to utilize on-line tax research software to research certain tax compliance issues for the Funds and special purpose vehicles 
  • Liaison with investor relations group for investor tax questions and issues 
  • Work closely with accounting and operations group to streamline information flows and special reporting for tax efficiency 

Skills and Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree, CPA preferred 
  • Minimum of 8 years of tax experience in public accounting or equivalent with concentration in the financial services sector (i.e. hedge funds, credit funds, PE funds, investment partnerships, and securities taxation) 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to gather, organize, and illustrate ideas clearly and concisely 
  • Project management skills 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to identify issues and errors 
  • Proficient Excel knowledge and comfortable with systems and technology 
  • Attention to detail, well organized, and demonstrate commitment to accuracy 
  • Ability to drive a process and achieve desired results in a timely manner 
  • Ability to thrive under pressure
