Job Description

Modeling & Investment Performance Analysis  

  • Closely liaise with the valuation and investment team to develop, maintain, and analyze private valuation models including discounted cash flow (DCF), comparable public companies, precedent transactions, recovery analysis, option pricing models, and other valuation models  
  • Drive the onboarding process for new portfolio investments and ensure proper data collection procedures are in place to support the valuations process as well as asset management and portfolio management initiatives  
  • Maintain data sets used for preparation of company valuations including tracking private company financials, financings, cap tables, and projections as needed  

Valuation Committee & Procedures  

  • Prepare summary exhibits and assist with Valuation Committee meetings to discuss proposed valuations  
  • Serve as subject matter expert in all things valuation, including industry and investment specific valuation methodologies and reporting requirements  
  • Adhere to best practices in the development of valuation methodologies in compliance with ASC 820 Fair Value guidance, while staying up to date on current market developments and industry best practices  
  • Assist with back-testing and maintenance of valuation policy / procedures / governance  

Internal Collaboration  

  • Present and interact with the valuation & investment team as well as senior management of the firm, coordinating resources and deliverables, presentation reviews, valuation model reviews, and completion of ad-hoc deliverables  
  • Maintain relationships with core constituencies, including the investment team, investor relations, legal, and finance teams  
  • Consult with investment team and portfolio management team on a regular basis to gather company updates and feedback for valuation analyses  

External Collaboration  

  • Maintain engagements and relationships with various third-party valuation specialists for quarterly valuations of private investments  
  • Provide data, updates and other deliverables to third-party valuation specialists to ensure valuations are corroborated on a quarterly basis  
  • Review third-party valuation specialist reports  
  • Assist with annual audit by providing supporting documentation to the auditors and responding to their valuation related inquiries  


Qualifications  

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Economics, Accounting, or similar discipline  
  • 2-4 years of private valuation or similar experience in “Big 4” transaction services, a private equity fund, third-party valuation services provider, or similar corporate or consulting experiences  
  • Strong knowledge of Excel modeling  
  • Experience constructing valuation models or other financial models  
  • Experience in performing credit, stressed/distressed credit, preferred equity, and convertible debt a plus  
  • Exposure to Commercial Real Estate a plus    
  • CFA and/or CPA a plus  
  • Strong understanding of valuation methodologies, security types, financial statements, and capital markets  
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion particularly in dealing with confidential matters/materials  
  • Must possess a team-focused attitude with a demonstrated interest and ability to work collaboratively with others, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently  
  • Demonstrates initiative; proactively seeks out internal resources, and proposes solutions  
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills
